[국내자료/학술지] 이지영. 2024. 아시아 유학생들의 한국 유학 결정 과정: 부산 B대학 석사과정 학생들의 경험을 바탕으로

[초록]

연구방법 석사과정 유학생 11명을 대상으로 질문지에 기반한 자서전적 에세이 작성, 개별 심층 인터뷰를 진행하였다. 수집된 자료는 주제별 분석방법으로 해석하였다.

결과 첫째, 유학 결심 단계에서 가장 먼저 고려하는 것은 ‘학부 전공’과 ‘한국어 능력’ 으로 나타났다. 둘째, 탐색/선별/지원 단계에서는 ‘낮은 입학 허들’, ‘한류와 한국에 관한 호기심’, ‘장학금지원’, ‘문화적·지리적 근접성’, ‘신뢰할 수 있는 정보, 홍보, 네트워크 형성’ 등을 고려하였다. 셋째, 최종결정 단계에서는 ‘장학금 지원’, ‘한국과 자국의 문화적·지리적 근접성’, ‘매력적인 도시와 학교 환경’을 고려하였다.

결론 아시아지역의 석사과정 유학생에게 장학금 지원과 문화적·지리적 근접성은 한국 유학 결정과정에서 여러 차례 고려된 요인으로 나타난다. 이에 관한 실제적이고 정확한 정보 제공은 유학 결정에 있어 유인 요인이 될 것이다. 또한, 이들의 유학 목적과 계획, 학위 취득 후 계획 등을 면밀하게 파악하고, 유학 후 진로 및 정주 계획에 대한 안내와 관리에도 관심을 기울이는 다층적이고 세밀한 홍보-유치-운영-관리방안이 마련되어야 할 것이다.

Methods 11master's course international students were asked to write autobiographical essays based on questionnaires and to conduct individual in-depth interviews. The collected data were interpreted usingAnalyse thematique.

Result In the study-abroad choosing process, the primary consideration isrevealed to be the ‘undergraduate major’ and ‘Korean language proficiency’. Second, in theexploration/screening/apply phase, factors such as low admission barriers, curiosity about Korea,scholarship support, cultural/geographical proximity, reliable information, notice, and networking were considered. In the third and final choosing phase, factors such as scholarship support,cultural/geographical proximity to Korea and one’s home country, and the attractiveness of the city andcampus environment were taken into consideration.

Conclusion Supporting scholarships andcultural/geographical proximity are factors that appear multiple times in the choosing process. Providingpractical and accurate information about these factors can serve as pull factors. Additionally, it is crucialto thoroughly understand their study abroad purposes, plans, and post-graduate aspirations, and todevelop multilayered and detailed strategies for notice-attract- operation-management that also focus on guiding and managing career paths and settlement plans after studying abroad.
